ZEN - Understanding FTTC test results
This document provides and overview and FTTC to assist consumers of Zen diagnostic tools to self-serve and explains the results of a FTTC Service Test
What is FTTC?
FTTC is a technology created to provide faster speeds to the customer premises. This is done by shortening the copper used in the network. From the Exchange to the cabinet Fibre Optic cables are used to deliver high speeds. The Fibre cable is handed over to copper cable to deliver the service to the premises.
2. FTTC Service Test
FTTC can be tested to show Sync speeds, current line profile and indications of potential service outages. This information is available via the Service test that can be run within the Indirect Portal.
The Service test checks line quality and will indicate if there are any issues are detected with the connection.
FTTC Stability modifies FTTC as a product has stability modifications in line with the connection to assist in stabilising the line.
This is done by changing the parameters of DLM (Dynamic Line management). If the line starts to error or if there is any heightened noise detected DLM will attempt to stabilise the line. Depending on what stability modification is set to, DLM thresholds can be more aggressive.
There are 3 stability orders:
Speed – DLM attempts to have the line running at it’s fastest with some stability.
Standard – This is the ‘medium’ option accounting for both stability and speed.
Stable – DLM attempts to make the line as stable as possible. Speed is sacrificed as a result.
